Rachel Paxton says, “Life’s journey is contradictory: an oarless boat beckons us to float freely, toward our destiny, while a chair entices us to rest and contemplate, to ‘come home’. My paintings weave together the rhythms and patterns of these polarities.” Dense with imagery, Paxton’s work deftly combines fragments of sheet music, old maps, tin ceilings or gravestone rubbings as backdrops overlaid with lushly painted elements.
