Bill Chisholm is a realist painter who uses historical techniques of nuanced paint handling and lighting to produce dynamic, colorful, contemporary canvases. In his fruit and vegetable series, he uses continuous layers of paint, inspired by color fields and compositions from modernist and abstract painting to go beyond realism to capture the uniqueness and “character” of his subject.
