David Poppie’s mixed media wall pieces are gorgeous contemplations on the disposable nature of contemporary culture. From tea bags and matchbooks to bottlecaps, cassette tapes and colored pencils, anything seems to be fair game for his collages. He says, “Through the gathering of the discards of contemporary culture, I ask the viewer to reconsider the function and value of these objects.” Poppie earned his MFA at the University of Wisconsin. He has had solo shows at galleries in New York City and New Mexico, and his work was shown recently at Pulse Miami.
