Cheryl Louise and Don Olney
Cheryl Olney’s delightful folk art depicts her African-American heritage in clear colors and playful imagery. She, and her woodworker husband, Don, create wonderful sculptural artwork – some functional, some decorative, all colorful and energetic. Made of wood, her pieces range from 1″ tall to 8 feet tall. They can nest in your pocket, stand on the mantel or desk, pin to your vest, or grace your wall as small or large wall pieces, or even stand as a full or even oversized outdoor sculpture.
Olney’s warm and spirited figurative work touches the heart and soul, and is full of people that “we all know.” Whether she is making art, peace, joy or amends, she lives life like she means it and in her own words, “Sometimes the dance is in our heads. Sometimes in our hands, sometimes in our feet, but dance we must.”
