Hiroshi Nakayama's stoneware sculptures are fired multiple times in extremely hot kilns, using his own glaze which he developed over many years of practicing his craft. “The unique glaze, applied largely by dipping, creates interesting variations in color and pattern and a characteristic natural look. Specks of color with occasional random galactic patterns and subtle iridescence may develop during the firings,” says Nakayama. His forms are elemental: circles, spirals, spheres. But in their coloration and attention to detail, they achieve an unobtrusive complexity. His ceramic work is in the permanent collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
