Anodized Aluminum Mobiles & Jewelry
PO Box 63

Carol and Jean-Pierre Hsu work in rural West Virginia. For more than 4 decades, we have produced works of art in various media.
We have chosen to work in aluminum, one of the most ubiquitous materials in the world. With this basic element found in almost every industry, our challenge is to create using a common material in an uncommon way.
We emboss textures onto sheet that is then anodized to our specifications with a palette of eighteen colors. Using antique kick- and bench-presses with handmade dies, a finger brake, and slip rollers, we cut, form, and finish the edges of every element. The work is assembled with handmade silver rivets.
Except for the anodizing, all work is done in our studio.
Our palette allows us to work in suites of warm, cool, and complimentary colors as well as black and gray. Some jewelry includes colored freshwater pearls. Our designs often feature articulated parts. Even our larger pieces are lightweight and easy to wear.
We take special care to construct vibrant jewelry that is enduring, lightweight and comfortable to wear every day. Our jewelry findings are sterling silver, US surgical steel, or niobium.
Using the same techniques, we work in a larger scale, making mobiles and wall pieces.
