Husband and wife team Lisa and Scott Cylinder founded their jewelry company ‘Chickenscratch’ in 1988 while students at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Brass, copper, sterling silver, plastics and flea market finds are often used in their whimsical and very funny jewelry. Color is achieved through rich finishing patinas, including classic verdigris. Silver and gold leaf and mica powders also accent many of their pieces. The narrative nature of their jewelry draws from fables and is often a ‘play on words’. The work often utilizes movable elements; free swinging legs, tongues, and tails. This humorous kinetic facet gives their jewelry its charm and character, and is certainly a conversation starter!
