METROWEST BOSTON: Hiding in Plain Sight

Massachusetts’ state-designated Cultural Districts are walkable areas with a high density of arts entities. There are only 55 such Districts in the state, and four are in MetroWest Boston! When you come to Paradise City Marlborough, include plans to visit at least one of them – Marlborough, Franklin, Framingham, and Natick – to make your weekend even more memorable.

Historic architecture forms the framework for each of these Districts. The steeples and spires of Marlborough create a skyline unaltered since 1905. Natick’s majestic neo-gothic architecture serves as an impressive backdrop for the cultural offerings surrounding the town common. Framingham’s Village Hall dates to 1834, and Franklin’s Historical Museum to 1842. These Cultural Districts offer impressive museums of art and history, theaters for concerts, dance and dramatic performances, art galleries, and a variety of annual festivals, events and farmers markets. Check out the vast array of public art, which includes murals, mosaics, and hand-painted electrical boxes throughout the region, plus Franklin’s 25 artist-designed “Ladybug” statues. The “Many Cultures, One Heart” public art project in Framingham includes 32 uniquely decorated heart sculptures installed citywide representing racial and cultural diversity.
