Wendy Ellertson says, “Life is all about stories. Some of us create mythic worlds to hold the stories. Welcome to mine.” Essentially a storyteller, she has crafted an entire alternate world, filled with fantastic creatures, masked riders and beaded birds. Each creature is part of an epic narrative, and Ellertson loves to tell their stories. Her storytelling has crossed over to a new dimension with her handmade “artist’s books”. Leather-bound, dense with poetry and images, her books can also be found in miniature in the hands, paws, and claws of her sculptures. Ellertson’s inspirations include studies in Europe, bus rides in Ecuador, an affinity for gargoyles, and a good helping of Dr. Seuss.
