Much of the inspiration for Steven Kolodny’s work comes from his love for science, astronomy and the sea. When not making jewelry, he can always be found out on the water. He is a Coast Guard-licensed Captain and has fished and sailed the waters from Alaska to Panama.” Kolodny has developed many of his own techniques, including hollow-tapered tubes that he calls “speculums”. “I saw an exhibit of Galileo’s original telescope and it looked very similar to the hollow speculums I was making,” Kolodny recalls. “This spawned a collection I call the Stargazer Pendant series.” The tapered tubes give his jewelry a three dimensional volume and a crisper line that cannot be achieved any other way.
