Gayle Weitz
This human-size wooden cabinet is from Gayle Weitz’s “Humanimals” series, which consists of twelve anthropomorphized figures each addressing a particular relationship between humans and other animals. “Fine art/craft, sophisticated/campy, humorous/serious, truth/fiction. . . I enjoy walking the line. My personal aesthetic leans toward the functional, with lots of detail. I am also a social activist at heart,” writes Weitz.
“Sheepish”: Humanimal #7; Sheepish is a demure librarian from New England, bundled up in wool, from her sweater to her skirt to her cable-knit stockings (not to mention her mittens) — carved from baswood and then intricately finished with acrylic paint and pencil. She opens up as a cabinet.
