Marlene Rye’s abstracted landscapes are full of vivid color and undulate with light and shadow. Winding paths along a forest floor with water and sky are surely there, but her paintings suggest a secret space where trees can become circus performers, magicians or dancers. She has an A.B. from Smith College and an M.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. She has mounted 17 solo gallery shows since 1994, including the Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia and Jacqui Becker Gallery in Boston.
