Shanghai-born John Deng became interested in photography as a teenager when he made a pinhole camera out of a cookie tin. His first real camera was a Seagull 120 Twin Lens Reflex System, which he bought for about $2, and still carries with him wherever he goes. He now works both digitally and with a traditional camera and darkroom setup.
He states, “I hope my work transcends the ordinary landscape to express the drama and the story of the places and its people. Much of my work is shot in China because my emotion and enthusiasm flows from these places.”
