Before turning to furniture making, Michael Hoy and Perky Alsop owned a small wine and cheese company in Maine. It had a busy open kitchen, where everyone chopped, sliced, kneaded, talked, laughed and cooked on Hoy’s first handmade Work Island. That became his inspiration to build furniture for every part of the house. His solid and unpretentious pieces are designed for daily use. Their gleaming surfaces, handwoven seats and clean lines are irresistible, inviting family and friends to gather around the table for a meal or relax for coffee and conversation in the living room.
“Each stretcher, drawer pull, inlay, taper, dovetail, is an integral part of a uniquely simple and coherent whole,” says Hoy. Incorporating elements of Mission and Shaker furniture, ‘we add our own mix of rural Maine, where life feels essential and uncluttered; family, fresh eggs, changing seasons, strawberry-rhubarb pie in the spring, where renewal and permanence go hand in hand.’
“Rectangular Kitchen Table Set”, solid maple with cherry inlay, cherry base and dovetailed drawer with maple pull; cherry side chairs with woven cotton seat and back. 54″ x 32″ x 32″.
