Marlene Rye’s abstracted landscapes are full of vivid color and undulate with light and shadow. Winding paths along a forest floor with water and sky are surely there, but her paintings suggest a secret space where trees can become circus performers, magicians or dancers. She has an A.B. from Smith College and an M.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
