Living Color
Color theory is the study of how both contrasting and complementary colors interact. This season’s featured exhibition explores how that interaction can have a powerful way of communicating moods and modernizing everyday spaces. We’ve handpicked a small selection of works by our exhibiting artists + makers to show how sticking to a color scheme can guide the eye and create aesthetically pleasing moments in anyone’s home. Some pieces evoke calm and tranquility, using soft pastels and warm tones, while others lean into bolder shades to energize and animate. A striking necklace draws out the cool undertones of a bespoke garment. The glaze of a ceramic platter and the deep blue resin in a carved wooden board sets off the beauty of your favorite home-cooked recipes. Proper use of color can transform a simple table setting into a striking visual experience while inspiring the overall ambience. As the painter Wassily Kandinsky wrote, “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”
Our personal spaces and shared environments can deeply impact our daily life. One seeks to create meaning in every aspect, and curating the colors of your home and wardrobe is the perfect place to start.
“Color is all. When color is right, form is right.
Color is everything, color is vibration like music; everything is vibration.”
– Marc Chagall
