Karen and Geoffrey Caldwell have taken the tradition of stained glass windows and infused it with new life. Their “patchwork” fused, beveled and painted glass window panels are a naturalist’s vision of the Maine Coast, the Hudson River and the Jersey Shore. Geoffrey paints with a 13th century technique of silver stain to bring insects, birds and sea creatures to life. Karen creates three-dimensional botanicals using modern methods in fused glass. The airy geometry of the stained glass brings it all together.
In this piece, “Black-Eyed Susans and Poppies”, a garden of spring flowers is bordered by images of bees, spiders and beetles.
