Sumiyo Toribe was born in Japan and now resides in central Massachusetts. Toribe’s paintings reflect her multi-cultural experience, with eastern and western influences artfully blended in the work. Her watercolor technique is considered unique as she uses the flow of water to draw spontaneously and convey energy in her paintings. The outcome is artwork that is simultaneously expressive and impressionistic, abstract and representational. Toribe’s paintings have been featured in magazines and newspapers and she recently completed the book Painting by Lyrics with lyricist Mark Stevens.
