Jenny Pope is a printmaker who produces brightly colored woodcuts inspired by fanciful tales about science and the oddness of the natural world. Her ecologically minded pieces range from topics about global warming and biodiversity to the deep sea and extinct species. Many of her images include fanciful depictions of birds. Pope is known for her "color reduction" or "lost block" woodcuts. Here she pulls an edition of "Seven Species", which shows all the species of woodpeckers that reside in upstate New York.
