Chihiro Makio considered a career as a painter until she fell in love with the endless possibilities of three-dimensional materials. Makio’s cool shapes, refined details and sophisticated use of metals won her a first place Saul Bell Award for Silver and a Niche Finalist Award.
Fascinated by the ancient paper art of Origami, Makio has adapted this technique to metal. Each floral sphere is carefully hand-crafted from twelve sterling silver triangles. The end result is a lightweight and beautifully elegant metal form that looks like it is folded from a sheet of paper.
“Flora Bracelet”, sterling silver, rosegold plated. 8.5″ x 1″ x 1″.
