Dwight Baird has been a watercolorist for over twenty years. He was commissioned by the Montreal McCord Museum for an original watercolor, and was the recipient of a 2000 Premier’s Award, presented annually to graduates of Ontario colleges for outstanding accomplishment in a specific field of study (Visual Arts). For the last eight years Baird has been working in acrylics, mixing the broad strokes of impressionism with intricate detail. Baird’s work is recognized for its dynamic use of color, light, original compositions and unique subject matter.
Baird’s current series of paintings depicts the people of Cuba, documenting their daily life and a time in history which will never be seen again. Take a visual stroll along the winding backstreets of Havana with Baird, and sway to the Latin beat… old men playing dominos and rolling those famous cigars, mysterious doorways and vintage cars.
